Yes you read that right, the moment Scotland, no the Uk, no in fact Europe has been waiting for is finally here!
Europe’s first purpose built drift facility is now open and waiting to be skidded on.
However before the public can get to grips with the new tarmac, there had to be some test work carried out, and yours truly Minty.Fresh were invited along with some other local media guys to capture some of the action.
I arrived at Driftland early to have a look over the track and try to work out where the good spots were, in the pictures and small clips I had seen the track look awesome, but when you are actually standing in the middle of it I couldn’t quite get over the fact that I was standing on something that in time, will become legend!
Walking the track shows you just how many gradient’s the site has, there is plenty of scope for some 3 wheel action at this corner
The guys at Hardie race promotions have taken alot of peoples suggestions into consideration, the wall was one must have for Driftland and its a beast!
Having being newly built there were some hidden drops that would catch many out
And of course there was THAT crash last night too but Barry is fine and well albeit slightly bashed up, the car although suffering some cosmetic damage is pretty well considering.Prior to the event Jeek hadn’t given much away as to who the drivers would be, Garage Fuck House were on the scene with Barry’s KE70
Fraser’s 1Jz E46 BM
And Shand’s 4 door Skyline
All these guys were laying down some nice smoke throughout the evening!
AMK Garage also brought along their 1JZ RX8, having never seen this car in person before it was amazing to see it for the first time at Driftland
On the limiter, Balls to the wall!
BDC regular Steve Donnelly was along in his Soarer, this car is a serious smoke machine
Steve was definitely bedding in the fresh new tarmac!
There were some other mishaps too! This particular BM was going pretty well
Hitting the inside of a racing kerb can never be good. The shock was dead aswell as the wishbone.
I think the biggest grin of the night would have been on the faces of the two guys which pretty much thought and pushed for the idea of driftland in the first place.
Jeek has been working pretty much nonstop to get the track completed with the help of the guys at Hardie Race Promotions
He didn’t take any prisoners either! flat out on the limiter of the big V8 BM!
Kyle aka Mr Chizfab had the Jizzzcab out on track minus the roof!
He was bringing the fire too! unfortunately I didn’t grab a flame shot but the boom from the exhaust could be heard for miles around!
Ren’s Bm was going well too
until later on in the night something happened which caused him to lose the oil from the engine over half the track
hopefully he won’t have suffered any major engine damage and he can get back out on saturday.
Driver of the night though for me was Ade!
He was pushing his BM super hard!
So hard in fact he spent a few times in the previously mentioned drop off’s
but it didn’t detere him as he pushed the car harder and harder!
So with a lung full of tyre smoke and a nice top up to my t-shirt tan I headed back up the road to Aberdeen for the fun to begin all over again on saturday when Kyle will be getting snap’s and Mint and Jites will be out skidding Driftland!!
