The British Drift Championship made its way to Knockhill for round 6, the final round of the 2012 championship it was still wide open in terms of standings for all the classes which meant it was all to play for.
The day started early for myself which actually was my own fault! but it gave me some time to check out the paddock before the action on track began.
Remmo Neizen and Lars Verbraeken came all the way from Holland to represent Team Falken and to join in the competition, their cars have been doing the rounds for a while now but still look fresh!
The rest of team Falken were up early to get the cars prepped for the session, Paul Chesire’s G35 is a car perfectly presented, I know he has spent a serious amount of time and money on his car and it shows.
Local drift crew Team Scotdrift had the cars ready to go, David Waterworth’s S15 Viper was sandwiched between the 2jz monsters.
7eam Chizfab repped it hard for this round seeing as they are only 20 miles away from the track. Kyle and Jeek were joined by Joe Lane who drove up from Exeter to compete, that’s dedication right there! They also fully repped Minty.Fresh!
Jeeks beemer is super evil!
Team Skidroh were also kind enough to rep Minty.Fresh, Alex was ripping up the pits on his drift trike, Chunk helped him out with a pull up the hill.
The track opened just after 12pm and first onto the hill were the superpro’s.
Mike Marshall found the gravel trap pretty early on …..
Mark Luney and the SATS motorsport Supra tore up their tyres. Full Limiter abuse!
Wayne Keeber was on it in the CMR Soarer and didn’t show the hill any mercy
The same could be said for Jay Fuller, not only did he go hard but he went at the hill fully sideways and fully committed. Unfortunately he didn’t make it the first time and ended up in the gravel trap but the man has no fear!
While the superpro’s were out on the hill the semi pro’s were practicing at the hairpin.
The track layout would see them run reverse from the start line, down to the left through the short circuit layout and back onto the main track round the hairpin. Most drivers got the hang of it early on
Ricky Emery was chasing down Lewis Cracknell into the hairpin
Ian Waddington was pushing the car into some nice angles on the transition leading to the main track,
He was also reppin Minty.Fresh!
Jay White was another driver who has consistently driven well over the course of the season, Knockhill was no different
Matt Samuel was back once again in his 300ZX, only one of two which compete in competitions
Once the semipro’s had practiced they went straight to qualifying.
Joe lane unfortunately didn’t qualify but his car looked good sitting sideways
One person who did qualify though was local Marcin Murca in his Supra, ive seen Marcin do just normal track days in his Supra but he ALWAYS brings the smoke!
Once Semi Pro qualifying was over, a pro practice session got under way on the hill
Kyle from Chizfab had the attitude “win or bin” and he certainly attacked the hill
With the Prodrift season already ended alot of the Irish guys came over to round 6
The Sinnot brothers pushed hard in their S15’s
The original BDC driver to wear Minty.Fresh stickers Sam Holt has been to the hill before and it didn’t take him long to feel at home
Mark Lappage was also on form in the Acorn Insurance S13
With the day coming to a close the Semi Pro’s got a little taster for the following morning by getting to run over the hill
Steven Donnelly, local to knockhill got the car into position right away
Matt Hitchcock followed in the Swift BMW
The day came to an end with Kyle from Chizfab in the bog at duffus.
Once the car was recovered they found some damage the guys set about the repairs which included welding up Kyle’s back wheel and smashing back into shape with a large hammer lol! A late night ensued
Sunday would bring the final round of the 2012 British Drift Championship …………………. and the rain …………………..
