By now your bound to know who Mint is? He’s the little dude who co own’s and writes this blog. He used to rock an S15 with a Uras hovercraft kit and stanced rims years ahead of the s body boom It was the first S15 I personally ever saw/drove and worked on.
He then moved onto what became know as “the Minty.Fresh Miata” again before the big MX5 boom which is currently taking over the UK japanese car scene/drift scene
So it’s no suprise really that he is ahead of the game again, this time he stepped over to a Toyota …….. A JZX100 to be exact.
Back in August 2011 Mint travelled to Japan for the autumn Matsuri at the world famous drift mecca of Ebisu but he knew the only way to truly enjoy his time there was to buy a skid car. After owning S bodies and Miata’s he kinda knew their weak points, it was a chance for him to get something different. He had long admired the Magician Jzx110 that Takamiya san drives. A jzx110 currently has a high retail price however the 100’s are slightly cheaper.
So Mint hit up Andy and Emily at Powervehicles to source him a decent 100 with some nice mods for a good price, Andy obliged and the JZX100 Tourer V you see before you is what Mint got.Standardish Aero with a front lip added, mismatched wheels, unknown coils, FMIC, boost controller, turbo timer, back box of unknown make but an all important Kaaz 2 way diff. The interior had a Recaro seat and the unbelievable carbon interior which is OEM
The car served him well for the Matsuri and in the G1 GP which he competed in and where it got its awesome sunstrip from.
But Mint had to travel back to the UK once the Matsuri was over leaving the 100 behind in Japan. He did think about selling it but after a few failed attempts/promises to buy he decided to bite the bullet and bring it home.
Plans were a foot before the car even left Japan let alone arrive in the UK but once the car was all registered and MOT’d Mint got the car back to Aberdeen to start the work
First up was HSD coilovers from driftworks, DW supplied a higher spring rate (15kgs up front and 12kgs in the back) for the car at Mints request. Then it was dropped like it was hot, arches slightly rolled in preparation for the rims
Fabulous by name fabulous by nature these wheels suit the car to a tee! 18 x 9″ up front and 18 x 10″ in the back with an ET of 22.
It isn’t just a car show queen though, yeah it looks goood rolling hard! but it looks even better sideways!
But after being out on track Mint still wasn’t 100% happy with the way the car felt, so he bought up some JZX110 arms, along with TRD bushes, he also fitted some subframe locking collars. Mint also added some 5mm spacers on the back.
Sophie (Mints G/F) hooked him up with an OEM grill badge, she knows him well right?!

So whats next for the big JZX? Mints says he definitely needs ARC products back in his life so a super induction airbox will certainly making its way from Japan and you know its gonna be skidded hard! I’m pretty certain over the coming winter months it will also start to wear some super hovercraft spec aero too!
Thanks to Christy over at Team Turtle for the skid pic
