With qualifying out of the way, Saturday was the day for the battles, if you haven’t been at a drift event before the top 16 drivers from the qualifying go head to head in a knock out competition until there is a winner.
The battles would take place in the afternoon, so the morning provided time for the drivers to perfect set up’s and do any final tweaks that the car might need
Drivers que’d up all morning,
Malc’s kept them right on the launch
Everyone of the drivers were ready for battle!
As I did with previous reports im not gonna list every battle but i will pick my favorites from each class ……..
So semi pro and Joe Lane goes up against Lawrence Taylor
It came down to a OMT unfortunately Lane wasn’t as aggressive as Taylor and Lawrence went through
The two Soarers of the BDC met
Ricky Emery came out the better of the two
Into the great 8 and Ricky Emery was up against Gaz Taylor
The battle was immense with both drivers dropping wheels off the track
In the end Gaz Taylor took the win over Emery after his car suffered a fairly significant failure!
Gaz Taylor continued on but was knocked out by Jay White after he spun mid battle.
Which mean’t Taylor would line up against Ian Waddington to battle it out for third place
Taylor pushed hard but Waddington’s consistent lines gave him the win
Onto the semi pro final and it was Jay White vs Owen Taylor
Jay White had looked good all weekend and the two drivers were super close, but it was Taylor who took the win
Pro Class was a hot bed of epic battles Jamie Kay lined up against Nathan Chivers
Mark Lappage lined up against Ant Mortley
After qualifying first Lappage had to prove he could do work when he had to and he did
Into the great 8 and Christian Lewis lined up against Jay Fuller
Fuller pushed hard!
But Christian Lewis took the win.
Marc Huxley had progressed well throughout the day but lost out to Mark Lappage for a Final spot, But he was up against Daryl Barnett for third place
Fortunately for Huxley, Barnett spun on the exit of turn 1 giving Marc third place once again
The final saw Christian Lewis Vs top place qualifier Lappage
Lewis pushed hard, in fact too hard and spun out giving Lappage the Win
Super Pro promised some mega line ups and it didn’t disappoint!
Steve “Stiggy” Evans lined up against Dan Moorhead
The legend of UK drifting couldn’t quite hold off WKD’s Moorhead
But in the end it was all love!
Moorheads WKD team-mate Wes Keating would met Lassa Tyres Simon Perry for battle
Keating spun after being a little too aggressive, giving Perry the win
Paul Smith in his borrowed S15 faced Mark Luney and his “1200bhp” Supra
Smith pushed hard but Luney took the win
Steve Moore took the track Vs Japspeed’s Baggsy
This was a truely epic battle but Baggsy would progress
Into the Great 8 and David Waterworth would meet Mark Luney in an epic V10 Vs straight 6 battle
Luney’s Supra was unstoppable!
Up next was for me the battle of the weekend, Carter vs Biagioni
For the first round Baggsy pushed hard into Carters door unfortunately Carter didn’t quite understand that there was NO practice runs but it was too late, he had driven the last two corners to save rubber. The next run however ……….
He took it to Baggsy’s door! paint was traded, rubbin is racing after all!
Baggsy progressed after Matt’s slightly forgetful nature but man it was a super cool battle!
Simon perry would meet Mark Luney
A Japspeed semi final would see Shane o’Sullivan go up against Baggsy
Both drivers drove aggressively but Sullivan would progress to the final
But first third place had to be decided
Baggsy took third place after a OMT
The final promised alot, and it didn’t disappoint
Both drivers nearly pulled perfect runs but after a OMT
O’ Sullivan would take the win for the second time this season!
With the racing over it was time for the awards……
Matt Carter got the “hard Charger” award for his efforts against Baggsy
And Team Rampstyle took the constructors trophy
The Semi Pro’s
And the Super Pros’s
A champagne cascade was flowed over Baggsy!!
And so with another round wrapped up it’s onto Lydden Hill next, the season is shaping up to be a banger!!
