Being based in Aberdeen can sometime’s suck, especially having to travel to events. This time myself and Niks left straight after a busy friday at work, 6 hours later and we were in Teesside. Checked in at the hotel and straight to the bar for a well-earned bottle of Bud. Then off to bed for an early start.
So Saturday arrived and we headed the 3 miles to the autodrome. The paddock was buzzing already and it was only 7.30 in the morning, I knew then the day was gonna be awesome! We had an hour to kill before the cars got onto track so I thought I would grab the chance to check out some of the cars competing.
David Waterworth’s S15 had definitely progressed from the last time I saw it, now sporting a 8 litre V10 engine from a Dodge Viper it was definitely a first in the S body community
The Japspeed guys had the full squad of cars on show and competing, Shane Lynch’s car was sporting its new Monster decals.
I love the variety in the BDC and the Swift Alarm BMW is one of the cars bringing the variety.
I caught the Driftworks S15 returning from scrutineering
Followed by Shane O’Sullivan in his S15 fresh from the 1st round of Prodrift
There were over 100 entrants in the BDC this year, alot to get down to the top 16!
The tyres were stacked ready!
First up was Semi Pro practice, Matt Samuel’s 300zx is a another car spicing up the BDC this year, the ZX has been a car I never really liked by even I have to admit it looks hella cool sideways!
Matt Stevenson’s BMW power V8 Supercharged PS13 certainly laid down the smoke!
The ex Forrest Wang/Drift Enterprise G35 definitely let you know it was coming, the whaling supercharger signalling it was ready for battle!
Unfortunately some went a little too quickly and the power of friction couldn’t even keep them out the kitty litter, Andrew Kenna was one.
but with a quick tug from Sweep’s he was free.
Next up was the Pro practice, Micheal Sheehan had traveled through the night from southern Ireland but he wouldn’t let lack of sleep impair his entry’s
Paul Cheshire’s G35 was rocking a lighter body this season with the front and back now just clamshell’s it certainly didn’t effect the cars sideways ability
Jeek was out in the Chizfab 540 BMW laying down the smoke
As was Kyle from Chizfab in the awesome Chizcab!
The AMD S13 rocked and awesome seethru bonnet!
The MB automotive S14 enjoyed the sunshine while it lasted
But as the super Pros hit the track the sky turned darker, Shane Lynch’s S15 tried to drive the clouds away
Along with Shane O Sullivan’s S15
But it wasn’t to be, the heavens opened as Mark Luney got to the track but it didn’t stop him from throwing the 1200bhp SATS Supra Sideways!
The weather did offer a glimmer of hope ……….. Declan Munnelly’s Mk2 Escort blasted the rain away unfortunately he lost his power steering belt in the process
Phil Morrison kicked it in to warp speed to help even more!
But the track didn’t fully dry, Matt Campling’s S13 carried on regardless with him at the wheel
My car of the day though was this little hatchi fitted with screaming F22c commonly found in a S2000, constant limiter abuse all day and constant sideways action from this little car certainly brightened up my day
And so that is it from the saturday, another report from Sunday will be coming soon along with the promised spotlights.
